About Okinawa Heartbeat
Founded in 2023, Okinawa Heartbeat aims to be a source of useful, practical information about things to do and places to go in Okinawa Prefecture. It’s definitely for tourists, but I also hope that foreign residents will benefit from it too.
What drove me to create Okinawa Heartbeat was the lack of truly in-depth articles on the web about some of the most interesting places. A person who wants to learn about, say Tsuken Island, has to do a lot of digging. Sure, there are lots of posts here and there about lots of interesting places, but they often don’t give the reader more than a few tidbits of info, and they focus more on the logistics (parking, how to get there) than on the places themselves. Also, posts on other sites tend to be quite vague and generic. Okinawa is such an amazing place that it deserves better.
Presently, I (Paul), do most of the writing for the site. I love writing about Okinawa, but my time is limited and there is so much to see and do here that even if I dedicated myself to this project full-time, I could only scratch the surface. So, I’d like to invite others to contribute.
If you want to write (and take photos) for Okinawa Heartbeat, I’d love to hear from you. I want to hear about the best Okinawan foods you’ve eaten (or learned to cook), the awesome walks you’ve taken around the island, the stray animals you’ve helped, the local businesses you’ve discovered, the amazing snorkeling trip you’ve taken, etc.
You can submit articles at any time. We can’t pay for them yet, but if we get the kind of support we’re looking for, that could change. If you do submit, please read our submission requirements carefully before sending us your work.
If you want to join our Facebook group, you can post anything of interest to people in Okinawa (or the many people who have left Okinawa, taking it with them in their hearts).
